Aspect Ratio

The proportional relationship between a video's width and height, such as 9:16 vertical or 16:9 widescreen.

Definition

Aspect ratio describes a frame's width relative to its height. Common formats include 9:16 (tall vertical video for phones), 1:1 (square), and 16:9 (widescreen). The right ratio depends on where the video will be watched.

Why it matters

Each placement favors a different ratio: TikTok and Reels are built for full-screen 9:16, feed placements often suit 1:1, and YouTube is traditionally 16:9. Using the wrong ratio means letterboxing or cropping that wastes screen space and can hurt performance.

How it applies to UGC ads

Most UGC ads are vertical 9:16 to fill the phone screen on TikTok and Reels. UGCABC can export multiple ratios so the same ad fits different placements without re-shooting it for each one.
